Education

NEWI attests to the fact that absence of commitment to invest in the education, particularly of the girl child, in rural communities has diminished their opportunities. The families that do so are those that uphold retrogressive cultural practices such as female genital mutilation, forced and early marriages. Teenage pregnancy, lack of sanitary kits and fear of witchcraft are other factors that affect progress of girls in education.

It is for this reason that NEWI remains committed to expanding girls mentorship and empowerment through collective advocacy and coordinated action, knowledge exchange, sharing evidence-based solutions and learning, and to strengthening partnerships and collaborative approaches that result into more opportunities for girls.

NEWI team led by Ho. Eve Obara (fifth right), Dr. Mark Matunga (fifth left) and the then JKUAT Vice Chancellor Prof. Mabel Imbuga (fourth left) donated a locally assembled Taifa laptop and an assortment of books and sanitary kits to Moi Nyabohanse Girls High School, Isebania during the international Day of the Girl Celebrations on 11th October, 2015.
