NEWI’s livelihoods and environmental conservation sector initiates a wide range of activities aimed at reducing poverty by increasing opportunities and enhancing sustainable community development. Main thematic areas are;

  • Food security and sustainable agriculture
  • Environmental and water conservation
  • Microfinance (community savings and internal lending).

Specific activities being implemented by NEWI include;

  • Provision of various types of extension work and technology dissemination and diversification to support vulnerable farm households to participate in high margin production of food.
  • Distribution of climate smart agricultural inputs for increased production and revenue.
  • Improving food and nutrition security among the vulnerable households through crop, fruits and livestock value chains.
  • Analyzing and supporting communities to integrate sustainable natural resource conservation and management practices in their routine activities
  • Documenting and sharing successful practices in different coordination forums in in order to advocate for scale up of interventions.
  • Promotion of local credit and finance facilitation as a way of empowering communities economically.
